Due to frequent Federal regulation changes we are often posting information regarding how these changes affect you. You can find the regulation information under the “Disclosure & Regulation” tab to the left. The most recent regulation changes are to Regulation CC and Regulation D.

Changes to Regulation CC will effect our Funds Availablity Policy, and Regulation D involves the number of withdrawals and transfers allowed between accounts.

Lakes participated in the Walk for Warmth on February 7th to walk for OLSHA. Our staff and their families were proud to take part in giving back to their community.

Lakes Scholarship Application

It is almost time for graduation, and we would like to invite area graduating seniors to submit an application for our 2010 Scholarship Program. Once again, we will be rewarding six (6) $250.00 scholarships to six youth members who have shown scholastic excellence and who are interested in advancing their education.

We are proud of our graduating seniors and support them all in their ongoing educational goals. Applications may be picked up at the credit union office, or you can print a copy online by clicking on the link below. All applications must be returned to the credit union by March 30, 2010.

File Your Taxes For FREE!

January 18, 2010 will kick off the Just file it! program for the 2009 tax season. In the past years, this program has helped thousands of Michigan residents file their taxes for free and take advantage of the state and federal earned-income tax credit (EITC). Last year 5,425 Michgan filers received more thatn $10 million in tax refunds and credits.

Michigan residents miss out on millions of dollars in tax refunds and credits every year, and Just file it! serves those who need these funds the most. The program is one of many initiatives non-profit credit unions offer to better serve their members.

The Just file it! program is available to anyone in need of tax services no matter what their income level. All that you need is a computer, Internet access, a Web browser and a printer. The program uses a free, Web-based software program, posing questions to users and offering assistance via online chats. It is offered in English and Spanish.

Free Tax Prep Resources for Individual Tax Filers begins January 18, 2010. Click here on the Just file it! logo to access all state and federal income tax forms to receive important refunds and credits. This service is FREE.

Our Teen Financial Workshops Come To You

Lakes Community Credit Union offers FREE teen financial workshops to our young adult members and their parents. We now offer to come to your place of business or worship to promote strong financial beginnings.*Our workshops cover a variety of topics, such as

Contact Sue at 586-463-5001 if you are interested in having LCCU visit you. If there is a specific topic you are interested in covering, please let us know. We are here to help make sure that our youth members start their financial futures on the right foot.

Your Credit Score, Financial Tools and How to Use Them Properly, Identity Theft, Financial Goals and Tips on Getting Your First Car Loan. The workshops are hosted by professionals in their fields and give the attendees a “real” look into their financial future. Teens ages 15 and up are welcome (parents are encouraged to attend as well).

ATM Disclosure Changes

Effective December 29, 2009, the available balance disclosed at ATM’s no longer includes the available overdraft line of credit or available check protect funds.

TEXT MESSAGE FRAUD ALERT!!

We would like to inform you of a new Identity Scam that is circulating. This newest scam is a text message that you receive on your cell phone that appears to come from the credit union co-op services, regarding fraud on your credit union debit card. This message is an attempt to obtain your debit card information. DO NOT reply to the message.

Lakes Community Credit Union DOES NOT contact members via text message. The credit union is aware of this scam, you don’t need to contact the credit union, just DO NOT reply to the mesage.

Right at Home

The housing crisis is expected to continue to impact homeowners for some time to come. To assist you from falling into the downward spiral, Lakes Community Credit Union has an educational video and resource-filled Web site to help homeowners solve mortgage problems and avoid foreclosure in these challenging economic times, Right at Home.

The 40-minute DVD contains information on mortgage products, money management, avoiding foreclosure and finding trustworthy help. The video can also be viewed from the Right at Home Web site at www.RightAtHomeAnswers.org. Additional resources on the Web site include a downloadable workbook and referrals for assistance from credit unions, housing counselors and community services.
